Free Craft project, Makeup caddy

Here's a project for teenage girls.
A Makeup Caddy, it's quite easy to make.

You will need
A box 4.5 inches by 7.5 inches by 2.5 inches or as near as you can get
A sheet of colourful wrapping paper
A roll of Clear Book covering film
PVA glue and glue brush
Scissors
Ribbon
Large needle
A knitting needle or similar item
2 Brads

First cut out one of the largest sides.
Glue any bits of the box that are loose after this and while it drys do
the next step.

Fold the side you cut out in two and then fold back the width of a ruler on each end.

By now your pva should be dry .
Glue the folded piece into the center of your box like this.
Only apply glue to the folded back tabs, you will see why later.

While that drys, take your chosen sheet of wrapping paper lay it on a flat surface.
I chose a Paperchase, shiny surfaced Skull design paper.
Unpeel the end of your Clear covering and stick it to the surface,
about 2 inches, this anchors your work for you and makes it easy to smooth the clear covering across the sheet of wrapping paper.

Line up the paper and clear covering and work across from left to right unrolling the backing and smoothing out any bubbles on the way.
When you are done trim the bit that was stuck to the surface away and the paper that is uncovered away.

Mark out the lines for folding the paper around the box and down the inside, you should have five sections, cut the excess away.

Fold the paper around the box , making sure it is centered.
Hold the paper together in the middle with a little tape this will allow you both hands for cutting four slots like this.

Cut a right angles to these and you will be left with four small pieces to cast away (or use as gift tags at a later date)
Make sure all your folds are creased in .

Take the paper off and number them like this so that you can glue them in the right order, it's a lot simpler than me writing it out.

Glue your paper to your box.

Cut out a piece the same size as the bottom of the box .

Cover the center section with it.
then cut out two pieces as wide as the shortest end of the box and 5 .5 inches long
If your box is a different size you will have to adjust that length.
Cover the remaining parts of the inside with these.

Trim off any little stray bits and it should look like this.
To make the handle you will need your Ribbon, Needle , Brads, Knitting needle
Scissors and Tape

Make a hole with your large needle in the center by the divider

Push the Brad through the Ribbon and through the hole and secure.
You can add bows as well if you like just add them behind the brad

Attach the other end of your ribbon to a knitting needle with some tape.

Use this like a giant sewing needle to thread it through, bring it over forming a handle and thread it through again.
Then attach the brad and ribbon the same as the other side and trim off the ends neatly both sides.
And there you have it a handy caddy for storing makeup or craft bits and bobs.

I hope you will enjoy having a go at this little project ,bye for now.

Playing catch up

I shall start with the nice things :-) on Friday I finished a Christmas craft tutorial which is on my website free for all who would like to have a go. It's a Needle felted Santa,

Here's a link Julietk
And I actually won something :-D I got an email today from Roni at Inkstains it really cheered me up. I just have to wait and see what it is.
Now I am playing catch up after a rotten weekend.
I was quietly reading the paper on Saturday afternoon when I realized the boiler was ticking like a clock. When hubby came in 20 mins later I mentioned it to him and he went to have a look. When he opened the built in cupboard with the boiler in it he discovered it was raining in there and the ticking sound was drops of water coming through the ceiling. it was also raining in the built in cupboard next to the boiler one. I use this cupboard to store lots of my craft supplies, we grabbed some buckets I use for paper mache to catch the droplets and cleared everything from the cupboard
but loads of stuff was wet through including a huge box of craft papers. More upsetting than that was the Council promised us an emergency plumber in two hours max and it actually took them 28 hours to come and stop the water and that was after we had had a night of bucket watching. The room now smells of damp and the people upstairs who's overflow was the cause were and are still away the council had to force an entry to stop the flow. so that's it I am up to date :-) here's to better week.

As I was so busy yesterday I forgot my Music Monday post
Here's this weeks track, I Love the Foo fighters and could use up quite a few Mondays on them :-) But decided on Times like these.

My Mothers Hands

I was trying to photograph a new bracelet I had made and took some photos of it on my wrist.
When looking at these photos I realized I have hands that look just like my mothers.
She was very ladylike and held her pinkie up when holding cups etc :-)
I remember she didn't like to hurt her hands, she would brush off most small injuries as nothing but if she hurt her hands she would whimper for cuddles and sympathy.
As she got older she would warm her hands in mine (which are always warm) when they were cold.
I don't know why I find this important enough to blog about, maybe it's just because I loved her so much and miss her a lot.
What wouldn't I give to hold those hands again.

Musical Mondays

Time for another of my favourite tracks, I warn you there are many :-)
This is a track I didn't discover until many years after it was recorded.
The lead singer makes me giggle because he looks like a cross between Jimmy Tarbuck and Alvin Stardust Both of whom you have to be over 30 to remember, showing my age again :-D

Oh so busy

I have been like a headless chicken running around this week what with family stuff and work, although I have only been out of the house for a couple of hours a day! Sometimes I can't move for people in my small London flat.
My step daughter has finally been offered a place she is willing to accept, a lovely new build in Camberwell, which is where I grew up.
I still only live three miles away.
Here are some Miniature Toys I have been making in between the madness.
They are great to make if you haven't days to devote to a project.
The Bear is just one inch tall, the rabbit is 1.5 inches and the Cat I have not measured

I have not forgotten that it is Halloween

Happy Halloween
to all who keep this festival.
I thought I had taken some great shots of a spooky moon last night but there was too much camera shake on all of them :-( so no spooky moon picture for todays post.
Instead here's a spooky fella I have been unable to show you before.
A sneak peek through a window :-) all will be revealed tomorrow.

Bye for now.

Musical Mondays

I find some people don't like to have music forced on them by having it embedded into the blog background but I would like to share some of my favourite tracks by adding them on a Musical Monday posting. This is one of my all time favourites. The Stone Roses, Fools Gold. I remember I was working in the sorting office (at the time I was working for a co similar to UPs) the first time I heard it and I ran out and bought the album as soon as I got the chance.

Designer Jeans at a fraction of the retail price

I thought I would just let peeps know that I am selling some super (showing my age here) Designer jeans in my Ebay shop. They are some stock I am clearing, all New and when I say a fraction of the cost I mean it. There are pairs of Jeans that retail for £270.00 with a starting bid of £20.00.
If you are lucky enough to still have the figure for these or have a trendy daughter to buy for, I recommend you take a look. I also am going to be selling some Bead mixes because I have way too many in my stash.
Also I will be selling some really tasty Filofax's at 50% of the retail price just as soon as I get some 2010 diary refills to bring them up to date.
Christmas is coming and I always sell on Ebay at this time of year, so look out for great gift ideas and always at a very reasonable price.

I sound like one of those adds :-D
Sell Sell Sell :-D
Bye for now.

Paper craft for a change

When I visited my brother and sister in law recently we went for a walk around the local Flea markets and Antique shops. We kept seeing Hat Boxes and my sister in law she said she was looking for one on a Gothic theme for her new dining room, not my kind of Gothic with skulls etc but the designer kind of Gothic :-D
So I promised to make her one when I found some time.
Here is the finished Hat Box I have made for her.

I used thick card and covered it with Black with white Flock wrapping paper from Paperchase.
It is 12 inches across as I used an old LP record to draw the circle.
I think I may add a black ribbon handle before I give it to her.
I will have to dig out my Eyelets and punch first.
Nothing much else to blog about as I am still working on the project I'm not allowed to show :-(
Back soon :-)
